How To Apply
& Make an Application
Application Guidelines
Eligibility Criteria
- Financial Circumstances: Must be of limited financial means.
- Health & Independence: Must be in good health and fully capable of looking after yourself independently day-to-day.
- Community Fit: Must possess a friendly disposition and be willing to live harmoniously within a close-knit community setting.
- Emergency Contact: Must be able to nominate a relative or friend who can assist or look after you in the event of illness.
How the Application Process Works
- Review Criteria: Ensure you meet all the basic requirements listed above.
- Submit Inquiry: Contact our Clerk to the Trustees or Homes Manager using the form below or by post/telephone to request an official Application Form.
- Application & Informal Interview: Once your completed application form is received, suitable candidates will be invited for an informal chat with the Homes Manager and a Trustee to discuss your housing needs.
- Trustee Decision: Being an Almshouse Charity, final appointments are made by the Board of Voluntary Trustees. If a suitable cottage is not immediately available, eligible applicants may be added to our waiting list.
Important Things to Note Before Applying
- No Tenancy Agreement: As an Almshouse Charity, residents occupy properties under a Licence for Occupation, paying a Weekly Maintenance Contribution rather than commercial rent.
- Parking: Please note that on-site parking for residents' personal motor vehicles is not available.
- Level of Care: The Homes Manager acts as a welfare coordinator and can help arrange third-party support (e.g., via Social Services or private care). However, the Manager does not provide direct "hands-on" personal care or domestic chores (such as shopping).
- Future Care Needs: If a resident’s health declines to a point where independent living is no longer safe—even with external support—the Trustees may assist in finding more suitable residential care accommodation.
